The most valuable applications of IOT are the ones that you’ll never interact with. In manufacturing, for instance, IOT is working to reduce costs and boost efficiencies in a variety of ways. For example, an inexpensive temperature sensor can be attached to an internet-connected micro-controller to alert manufacturers when a machine starts to overheat. That way, action can be taken to fix the machine before it breaks, therefore saving money on repairs and avoiding costly downtime on the factory floor. The real challenge here is not predicting but reacting, and once you know when to react how do you get your systems configured to react.

This is where MEUNGO platform plays an important role. The MEUNGO platform is a universal cloud solution that allows you to connect your machines to the internet, configure when and how you want to react and to monitor your data. The triggers on when you want to react can be configured with an easy to use interface by the users themselves. They can be simple triggers or arbitrary complex to the point of invoking complicated algorithms. The triggers can invoke reactions like alerts, e-mails, messaging or invoking external IT systems.

As an example, a machine equipped with sensors like temperature and counters connected to the internet can easily be brought online using the MEUNGO platform (see 1608). If you want to be notified when the machine overheats you can configure a simple trigger on temperature and associate as many actions with this trigger. You can configure the system to take action only when the trigger goes from being invalid to valid or every time when it is valid whenever a new measurements arrives. Also it is possible to associate calendars with the triggers, this can be useful if you create geo-fencing triggers only during working hours. The trigger can also be a combination of triggers on different attributes, for example running hours above a certain level in combination with oil level below a certain level.
